Aufberg 1113 - Views Of The Kaprun Glacier

Location:

Dürnberg Austria West Europe
DesignMountainNature

Two specially commissioned holiday apartments located high in the Austrian Alps where the scented air holds, in its spell, spicy conifer forests and ancient glaciers. Professor of architecture, Andreas Meck used bird’s nests for his inspiration. He placed his design hotel on the edge of a deep valley with views of the Kaprun Glacier.

You have the choice of staying in the Sparrow’s nest or the two-story Swallow’s nest. The floor to ceiling windows reveal panoramic views over vital valleys and mountains. There is a rain shower, private sauna, and a floating balcony for that magic carpet experience you’ve always wanted. For food, both apartments have kitchens with the basics provided. You can choose to have breakfast delivered and the owners have a restaurant nearby if you arrive home late from your excursions to Hohe Tauern National Park, Giant Ice World Werfen, or Salzburg town. Either way, it is a real gem to come home to; the stone floors, roaring fireplaces, wooden walls - very relaxing.

Maison Mystique - A Thai Hotel So Wes Anderson It Hurts

Maison Mystique does not announce itself. It accumulates - vine-draped archways, a hidden whisky lounge behind a door that gives nothing away, glass domes of preserved butterflies frozen mid-flutter - until the place stops feeling like a hotel and starts feeling like a house that has been quietly waiting for …

At 1,550 meters (5,085 feet) above sea level, perched on an Alpine meadow near the Austrian-Bavarian border, there is a small hotel that can only be reached by cable car. No road leads to it. No taxi will drop you there. The nine-suite retreat called Eriro sits on the Ehrwalder …

Hotel Portillo - The Yellow Hotel at the Edge of the Andes

The road in has 29 switchbacks and occasionally gets buried by snowstorms. The walls are covered in autographed photos of skiing legends. There are no televisions in the rooms. And yet people come back here, year after year, for generations. Hotel Portillo, the iconic yellow and blue fortress perched at …

Sacred Sands - Straw Walls, Cast-Iron Tubs, and the Darkest Sky in California

The walls at Sacred Sands are packed with straw. Not metaphorically - straw bale construction means compacted bales stacked, framed, and finished in terracotta clay, resulting in walls so thick they function as their own acoustic system, insulation layer, and fire barrier all at once. It is an uncommon way …

Kisawa Sanctuary - The Mozambique Resort Partnering with Ocean Research

On a wild stretch of Benguerra Island, where sand dunes roll into the Indian Ocean and dugongs graze offshore seagrass meadows, Kisawa Sanctuary has built something unusual: luxury villas incorporating 3D printing technology, staffed largely by locals, and driven by a commitment to marine science.
