Proper Hotels is a rapidly expanding chain that turns landmark buildings into luxury boutique hotels. Their newest addition sits at the edge of LA's fashion district, in the heart of downtown.
The beautiful 13-story Renaissance Revival-style building was built in 1926 and was designed by architects Alexander Curlett and Claud Beelman.
The building on Broadway street was formerly home to a private club in the 1920s, then to Cabrillo Hotel and later Case Hotel, and before Proper took over, YWCA ran their program for 39 years here.

During its rich history, it never quite fulfilled the building's potential up until now. Proper, with the help of Californian interior designer Kelly Wearstler. Her name should be familiar to fans of the Proper properties.

During their work, they removed all non-historic parts and restored the building's heritage to its full glory.
The result is 115,000 square feet (10,684 square meters) of thoughfully renovated space and 148 rooms and suites.

The Downtown LA Proper hotel prides itself on the artworks and decorations hand-curated by Kelly Wearstler.

The interiors reflect a bold vision of using all the available surfaces for art and greenery. While the original structure of the historical building is kept intact, it was upgraded with a beautiful mural.

The ceilings of flora and fauna paintings by Los Angeles-based designer Abel Macias seamlessly co-exist with the tropical plants, complementing one another.

Caldo Verde
There are two on-site restaurants in the hotel. Caldo Verde is on the ground floor, and Cara Cara is on the panoramic rooftop.

Caldo Verde offers authentic Spanish and Portuguese flavors in a richly decorated and sunlit space.

The amount of art and unique furniture is unseen in traditional luxury hotels.

Room 208 - Premier Suite

Room 605 - Court Suite

Room 705 - Pool Suite

The bathrooms have walk-in showers, and the hotel uses the famously nice-smelling Asop products.
