A perfect Mediterranean palace
This original 11th Century palace became the "Pensione Belvedere" hotel in 1893 and, over the years, attracted luminaries such as Jackie Onnassis and Virginia Wolf. Currently managed by luxury hotel group, Orient Express Hotels, the palace’s present incarnation boasts a cliff-hugging infinity pool that allows you to swim the fresh water while enjoying a boneshakingly beautiful view. Jump out and yam one of their famous pizzas fresh from the wood-burning oven and then laze on a lovely daybed. Your room or suite is set among fresco-covered stone arches of the kind enjoyed by medieval princesses but even they did not have a private Jacuzzi in their marble bathroom. Enjoy your sweeping balcony or private garden where the scents of local lemon groves burst out of the air. Every morning you can take a cruise in the hotel’s wooden boat along the shore and then jump into the refreshing sea; or explore the beguiling coastline from the comfort of the hotel’s Rolls-Royce convertible. The spa has extensive treatments with some of the zestiest essential oils. Superb luxury all-round then.
