Located in the historic British town of Exeter close to the natural beauty and riotous surf of the southern coast, The Magdalen Chapter is part of Swire Hotel’s British collection. Set in a voluminous 19th Century building that used to be the West of England Eye Hospital, The Magdalen Chapter is now a truly unique hotel.

Your deluxe room features designer furniture, a Nespresso machine, and a freshly docked iPad. The bathroom has a free-standing bath, monsoon shower, and designer products. In the verdant English garden, there is an indoor/outdoor pool, lounge, and library. The Restaurant serves a contemporary menu from locally-sourced suppliers with fresh and saltwater fish being something a specialty and you can even order your dinner from your room’s iPad before heading down.

The hotel also boasts little private ‘retreats’ squirreled away in the leafy gardens. The Spa has a number of treatment rooms and treatments are a mixture of East and West-influenced massages and healing techniques. The Magdalen Chapter is a place to enjoy the best of British.

Palacio del Inka, Cusco - Inside a 500-Year-Old Mansion: Stone, Gold, and a Baby Alpaca Named Inti

Most hotels describe themselves as historic. Palacio del Inka was a palace, then a Spanish colonial mansion, then a museum, and is now asking if you'd like a pisco sour. The stones - massive, fitted without mortar with an Incan precision that has outlasted earthquakes - belonged to Qorikancha, the …

The Landmark London - A Victorian Railway Hotel Finds Its Groove Again

The Landmark London defies every stereotype about stuffy London hotels. The Landmark London might sit on one of the capital's busiest roads, but step inside and you'll find yourself in something closer to a tropical conservatory than a traditional British establishment. Parador de Lerma - Sleep Where Napoleon Once Rested: Spain's Most Majestic Palace Hotel

Rising from the highest point of Lerma, the Parador de Lerma commands attention from miles away. Grand Hotel - A Journey to America's Last Great Summer Palace

On a tiny island in Lake Huron, where the clip-clop of horse hooves replaces the rumble of engines and fudge shops line cobblestone streets like something from a Dickens novel, sits one of America's most gloriously anachronistic hotels.
