The Maya Ubud Resort is an idyllic tropical getaway located in the heart of Bali. Perched above the Petanu River valley and Peliantan rice fields, it offers sweeping views of the lush tropical gardens and surrounding landscape. The resort sprawls across 10 hectares with a variety of guestrooms, thatched villas, and onsite activities for you to enjoy during your stay.

Departing from more conventional design concepts, architect Budiman Hendropurnomo fused tradition and modernity to celebrate the ancient heritage and natural landscape. The entire layout is oriented along the sacred axis, connected by a ceremonial walkway that follows the central ridge. He also incorporated recycled timber and other natural materials to give each room its own character.

Everyday items such as cartwheels, railway sleepers, and fish traps have been repurposed as mirrors, lamps, tables, and other design elements to represent the rich Balinese culture.

The eclectic décor is also present in the public spaces to create a continuity that integrates the resort into the natural landscape. As you dine at any of the several options on-site, revitalize yourself with a variety of spa treatments, lounge by the pool, partake in a yoga session, or challenge yourself on the tennis court in the fitness center, you cannot help but be overwhelmed by the awe-inspiring views and tranquility of the island.

Auberge Aux 4 Vents - The Swiss Hotel Where You Can Take a Bath Outdoors - From the Second Floor

Between Fribourg's medieval rooftops and a park full of century-old beeches, a renovated 17th-century manor is doing something quietly remarkable. Auberge aux 4 Vents is not a boutique hotel in the algorithmic sense - all reclaimed wood and oat milk. It is something older and stranger: a patrician country manor …

There is also a 13th-century castle tower where you can sleep beneath a glass ceiling and look up at the stone ribs …

Hana-Maui Resort, a Destination by Hyatt Residence - The Far Side of Maui

Most resorts want you to stay on property. Hana-Maui Resort wants you to stay in a different way entirely - unhurried, untethered, and largely offline. Rooms here have no televisions, no alarm clocks, and in some cases no radios. The spa uses heated lava rocks and Hawaiian healing traditions that …

Hotel Qvevrebi - Sleeping Inside A Wine Jug In Georgia's Ancient Vine Country

There are plenty of hotels that claim to put you in touch with a place's culture. Hotel Qvevrebi in eastern Georgia takes the idea more literally than most: it has built 20 cottages shaped like the qvevri, the ancient egg-shaped clay vessels that Georgians have used to ferment and store …

Aura House Bali - IBUKU's Three-Story Bamboo Villa Above Bali's Ayung River
