The Northern Light Inn is not just a romantic name. From August to April, you actually have a pretty good chance of spotting the Aurora dance right from this Icelandic hotel. They even have a designated viewing platform for this purpose, aptly called a Galaxy Balcony, where you can enjoy an unobstructed view of the phenomenon.
The inn itself is surrounded by an out-worldly landscape of moss-covered lava and snowy peaks. All rooms have lovely nature views but the best place to fully take in the Icelandic landscape is Max’s restaurant (named after the owners’ dog) with all-glass walls. The entire place is faithful to its Icelandic character: it’s all about homely atmosphere and cosiness with a luxurious twist.
When you’re not chasing the Northern Lights, there are plenty other wonders of nature to busy yourself with. The Northern Light Inn is just 1 kilometre away from the famous Blue Lagoon (a free shuttle runs there and back) and right in the middle of the Reykjanes UNESCO Geopark. You can explore the lava fields, geysers and cliffs of the region by foot, on bike, horseback or on a quad. After an adventure-filled day, make sure to unwind in the hotel wellness spa with three different types of sauna or hit the well-equipped fitness centre.
