Okahirongo Elephant Lodge - Luxurious Safari Getaway In Namibia

Location:

Purros Namibia Africa
Nature

Okahirongo Elephant Lodge is located in the unspoiled wilderness of Purros Conservancy in Namibia. The entire complex seeks to highlight and celebrate the surroundings: the buildings seamlessly blend in with the landscape, and the interiors are as open as possible, allowing you to enjoy the beautiful views from anywhere in the lodge.

This secluded destination can only be reached by plane (the lodge has a private airstrip) or a 4x4 vehicle, but it is well worth the journey. The surreal landscape of the semi-desert with mountains looming in the distance will give you the ultimate feeling of serenity.

Ostriches and other birds can often be spotted right from your chalet. Still, the real adventure begins on a photo safari where you will come across desert elephants, giraffes, lions, hyenas, black rhinos, and many more species. Okahirongo also organizes visits to a nearby village where you can learn about the culture of the Himba, the desert-dwelling people of this region.

With only 7 chalets and one presidential suite, the Elephant Lodge is a truly exclusive experience. The terracotta-style chalets are spacious, beautifully furnished, and offer stunning desert views. So when you aren’t looking out for wild animals, you can relax by the pool or rest in your private gazebo and soak in the quiet and beauty of the Purros Valley. Every day is finished in style with a candle-lit dinner under the stars serving Italian and local dishes with perfectly paired wines.

Sacred Sands - Straw Walls, Cast-Iron Tubs, and the Darkest Sky in California

The walls at Sacred Sands are packed with straw. Not metaphorically - straw bale construction means compacted bales stacked, framed, and finished in terracotta clay, resulting in walls so thick they function as their own acoustic system, insulation layer, and fire barrier all at once.
