Rosewood Sao Paulo has two distinguished parts. The renovated historical buildings of Latin America's leading Maternity Hospital, Hospital Umberto I, otherwise known as Matarazzo Hospital, and a new tower reminiscent of Milan's Bosco Verticale, but even bolder.
These premises created a new cultural, gastronomical, and hospitality hub, the Cidade Matarazzo.
Jean Nouvel worked on the exterior, while Philippe Starck was responsible for the interior of the freshly-opened, eye-catching hotel.
Jean Nouvel is a French Pritzker Prize winner architect (the highest praise in the industry) with a long history of designing state-of-the-art buildings, like the colorfully lit Torre Agbar in Barcelona, the Opera house in Lyon or the structure of Musée du quai Branly in Paris.
Philippe Starck is a French industrial architect and the man behind many iconic hotel buildings, like the Paramount Hotel in New York City or the Delano in Miami. He also designed various industrial structures in Japan, like the golden flame-covered Asahi Beer Hall. But his wildest creations include super yachts, like the world's largest sailing yacht.
So, it's safe to say that Starck and Nouvel are fearless in being challenged.
The 300 feet (93 meters) tall Matarazzo Park Tower consists of 104 rooms & 124 owners' suites, a spa, fitness, and a private penthouse.
The beautiful structure's material is redwood sourced from the Brazilian countryside.
The renovated century-old buildings of the former hospital and the contemporary green tower make for a spectacular sight.
