Vienna House Andel's Lodz - Polish Industrial Design Revolution

Location:

Lodz Poland East Europe
DesignIndustrial

In Chinese tradition, the front façade of a building is highly important as it is the ‘face’ of the building. The lovingly restored entrance and red bricks of this converted textile mill give Hotel Lodz a classic and beautiful face, like that of Ava Gardner. The interior has been designed by the specialist team of Jestico + Whiles giving a unique flavor to this unusual space.

The hotel has won enough awards to make me have to scroll down the page to read them all, that’s a lot of awards. When you stay here, you can enjoy the permanent exhibit of Polish and International modern art which hangs throughout the hotel. You will also be impressed by the way the features of the original building have been preserved.

The town of Lodz is an up-and-coming cultural center and nearby you can ski on Mount Kamkieńsk and enjoy the thermal baths of Uniejów. Weddings are big here and often, you will find the large ballroom full of people celebrating these special days. There is even an annual wedding expo with everything from a bridal fashion show to dance lessons. Mazel tov!

RYSE, Autograph Collection - The Hotel With the World's Biggest Bed

There aren't many hotels where the Director of Culture is a real job title, or where a New York art collective has installed an oversized bed designed for the giants of the distant future. Maison Mystique - A Thai Hotel So Wes Anderson It Hurts

Maison Mystique does not announce itself. It accumulates - vine-draped archways, a hidden whisky lounge behind a door that gives nothing away, glass domes of preserved butterflies frozen mid-flutter - until the place stops feeling like a hotel and starts feeling like a house that has been quietly waiting for …

Sea Containers London - A South Bank Hotel That Channels the Golden Age of Ocean Liners

Sea Containers London isn't trying to be your typical boutique hotel. Housed in what looks like an unremarkable 1970s office block on the South Bank, this 359-room property goes all-in on its transatlantic cruise liner theme, complete with copper-plated walls that curve like a vintage ship's hull and four new …

The Warehouse Hotel, Singapore - Secret Societies, Opium Dens, and Cocktails That Map the Past

In the 1890s, this building on Robertson Quay was ground zero for Singapore's red-light district, a hub for opium dens, gambling houses, and Chinese secret societies who demanded 36 sacred oaths from new recruits. The street was known in Hokkien as "Chiu Long Lo" – Spirits Shed Street – after …

Titan Ranch - Arkansas Has a Decommissioned Nuclear Missile Silo You Can Sleep In

The Cold War's most ominous legacy in Arkansas has been transformed into one of the most unusual places you can spend a night in America. The 6,000-pound blast door doesn't budge at first. You pull, and nothing happens, and then you pull harder, and eventually the thing that was built …

Hotel Ottilia - Beer, Bricks, and a Woman Named Ottilia: Inside Copenhagen's Most Unlikely Hotel

There's a hotel in Copenhagen where the walls once held the weight of six million liters of beer. Where a curved light installation trails down from ceiling to bar like a vertebral column, and where 64 golden discs on the facade each represent the bottom of a beer bottle. Where, …

JW Marriott Savannah Plant Riverside District - A Chrome Dinosaur and Southern Charm

On Savannah's historic riverfront, where cobblestones meet the water and tourists queue for trolley tours, sits something entirely unexpected: a chrome-dipped dinosaur skeleton stretching 135 feet across a hotel lobby. The JW Marriott Savannah Plant Riverside District isn't your typical riverfront accommodation. It's part hotel, part museum, part entertainment complex, …

MOAGEM Industrial Lodge - Sleeping in a Portuguese Factory

In the sleepy Portuguese village of Viana do Alentejo, where white-washed houses bake under the Alentejo sun and time moves at the pace of a Sunday afternoon, something unexpected has emerged from the bones of an old grain mill. The Moagem Industrial Lodge isn't your typical countryside retreat - this …
