Szuflandia - Eye-Popping Architecture in the Polish Beskids

Location:

Wisla Poland East Europe
Nature

Ewelina and Artur, the owners and creators of the Szuflandia project, wanted to create a unique getaway in Wisła – a picturesque town nestled in the heart of the Beskid Mountains in southern Poland. Their goal was to break away from the local tradition of building multi-storey A-frame houses or typical hotel blocks.

Inspired by modern Nordic architecture and surrounded by the beauty of nature, they set out to design something unconventional yet welcoming. This vision led to the creation of two wooden holiday apartment buildings, resembling stacked containers – modern in form, yet harmoniously integrated into the landscape.

Apartamenty Szuflandia

Apartamenty Szuflandia

Szuflandia is a fictional term derived from the Polish word "szuflada," which means drawer. It refers to the unique architecture in which bedrooms pop out from the building's facades like open drawers.

Szuflandia Apartments in the Beskids Mountain Region

Nestled by the forest near the Czech border, Szuflandia is a peaceful retreat, far from the noisy and crowded tourist promenades.

Szuflandia's Eye-Popping Architecture

Here, you can enjoy the fresh air, inhale the scents of the forest and freshly mown grass, listen to the rustling leaves and chirping crickets, and admire the starry sky right from your bed at night. During the day, unwind on the terrace while taking in the serene forest views.

The "drawers" of Szuflandia

The "drawers" of Szuflandia

There are two types of apartments: Joy, designed for two, and Fun, suitable for four. The apartments are furnished in a modern, eco-friendly style. All of them are air-conditioned and feature either a terrace or direct access to the garden (except Joy 5).

Szuflandia Exterior with the Bedroom Extending out of the Facade

When Szuflandia opened in 2016, it was difficult to convince visitors that not having a TV in the apartments was for their own benefit, but recently, more people have come to appreciate this.

Szuflandia's Birch Wood Interior

The interior follows the same Scandinavian principles as the structure itself: it's minimalist and made of wood, but because of the unique shapes, it creates exciting spaces, like the bed tucked into the window.

The apartments are equipped with Wi-Fi, a kitchenette that includes a coffee and tea set, a fridge, a stove, a dining table, bathrobes, and towels. Each private bathroom is fitted with a shower.

Szuflandia Kitchen and Bedroom in one Space

The apartments' subdued colors, highlighted by calming birch walls and handmade lamps, create a warm atmosphere.

Szuflandia's Bed in the Window with Forest Views

The bedrooms are located in window recesses that protrude from the building, so you can have breathtaking views of the surrounding mountainous area, which is beautifully covered in forest greenery.

Szuflandia Spa Relaxation Room

Szuflandia spa's relax room with a ceiling made of moss

Szuflandia has a surprisingly complex spa. It has an outdoor pool, a jacuzzi, a Finnish sauna, a Turkish spa, a cold plunge pool, and a beautiful resting area with a moss ceiling. There is also a barbecue and bonfire area and a playground for children.

Szuflandia Pool Aerial

Right by the outdoor pool, there is a ski slope, so during winter, you can do a super comfortable ski in and ski out and return for some food, drinks, or a short rest whenever you like.

Szuflandia Outdoor Pool

You can go straight from the gate to the lower lift station, and in the summer, you can set off on several trails leading towards Czantoria, Soszów, or Stożek.
