Blow Up Hall 5050 – The Reception-Less Hotel In Poznan

Location:

Poznan Poland East Europe
ArtDesignLuxury

Blow Up Hall 50/50 is a complex that includes a restaurant, art gallery, and hotel. It commissioned its hallmark installation to be designed by crucial artist Rafael Lozano-Hemmer, one of the world's top digital artists.

He is a BAFTA prize winner, and his work has appeared in New York and the Tate Modern London.

There is no reception or door numbers. Here, guests book, locate, and open their rooms with iPhones that use digital recognition technology to unlock doors.

Luckily the massages on offer are still done by trained humans in an old-fashioned way. Robot design hasn’t gone to the stage where they can give a good massage, as their hands are too cold.

You can also relax in the large steam room. The complex also includes boutique shopping in a nearby converted brewery. The restaurant is top-class, and the bar is resplendent in purple and geometric finery.

Domaine du Château des Pères - A Gorilla, a Michelin Star, and a Hotel in a Tree

There's a giant gorilla watching over the grounds. A wolf, frozen mid-sprint, tears through the woodland. And somewhere above the kitchen garden, suspended nearly 28 meters (92 feet) off the ground in a pod that looks like it belongs in a 1970s science fiction paperback, someone is waking up to …

Tree of Life Eila Art Hotel, Manali - India's Avant-Garde Mountain Retreat

A father-daughter duo have created something extraordinary in the hills above Manali - part spaceship, part anthill, entirely magical. Driving through the winding roads of Naggar, you'd be forgiven for doing a double-take when the Tree of Life Eila Art Hotel comes into view. Rising from the cedar forest like …

RYSE, Autograph Collection - The Hotel With the World's Biggest Bed

There aren't many hotels where the Director of Culture is a real job title, or where a New York art collective has installed an oversized bed designed for the giants of the distant future. RYSE, Autograph Collection, set in the anarchic energy of Seoul's Hongdae neighborhood, operates somewhere between hotel, …

Maison Mystique - A Thai Hotel So Wes Anderson It Hurts

Maison Mystique does not announce itself. It accumulates - vine-draped archways, a hidden whisky lounge behind a door that gives nothing away, glass domes of preserved butterflies frozen mid-flutter - until the place stops feeling like a hotel and starts feeling like a house that has been quietly waiting for …

Hana-Maui Resort, a Destination by Hyatt Residence - The Far Side of Maui

Most resorts want you to stay on property. Hana-Maui Resort wants you to stay in a different way entirely - unhurried, untethered, and largely offline. Rooms here have no televisions, no alarm clocks, and in some cases no radios. The spa uses heated lava rocks and Hawaiian healing traditions that …

Nujuma, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve - Stars, and Shells at Saudi Arabia's Most Remote Resort

Before you even unpack, two things will stop you in your tracks: the color of the water - a cerulean so intense it looks digitally enhanced - and the absolute quiet. Just the warm Red Sea breeze and the low hum of a place that has been deliberately designed to …

Palacio del Inka, Cusco - Inside a 500-Year-Old Mansion: Stone, Gold, and a Baby Alpaca Named Inti

Most hotels describe themselves as historic. Palacio del Inka was a palace, then a Spanish colonial mansion, then a museum, and is now asking if you'd like a pisco sour. The stones - massive, fitted without mortar with an Incan precision that has outlasted earthquakes - belonged to Qorikancha, the …

eriro - At the Foot of the Austrian Alps, a Hotel Unlike Any Other

At 1,550 meters (5,085 feet) above sea level, perched on an Alpine meadow near the Austrian-Bavarian border, there is a small hotel that can only be reached by cable car. No road leads to it. No taxi will drop you there. The nine-suite retreat called Eriro sits on the Ehrwalder …
