Carr Hall Castle - The Best British Holiday Home

June 4, 2014 by UNIQ Hotels

Location:

Holywell Green United Kingdom West Europe
CastleLuxury

This castle, which you can rent for a luxury break, was the winner of a TV show entitled, I Own Britain’s Best Home. Owners, Terry George, and Michael Rothwell spent four years doing the place up until it spanks the butt of any competition.

In the old days, castles had moats but these days you are more likely to find busloads of schoolchildren or hot tubs – thankfully, Carr Hall Castle is the latter type. Outside there is a hot tub and swimming pool and comfy garden furniture. Beyond the pool are green lawns and a deer park. Inside the castle, it is a mixture of aristocratic grandeur, teapot tradition, and modern opulence.

Have your green tea and drink it too in front of the widescreen TV. Check out the indoor swimming pool and the equipped ripped gym. Bedrooms are decorated to fulfill your four-post fantasies. It is truly a self-catering gem, nay a masterpiece, like living in a Mr Kipling cake.

Parador de Cardona - Sleeping in a Castle That Never Surrendered

There's a building in the Catalan countryside that spent eleven centuries refusing to fall. The Castle of Cardona, perched on a rocky promontory 460 meters (1,500 feet) above the walled town below, repelled Bourbon armies, outlasted Napoleonic sieges, and withstood the Carlists during the Spanish Civil War. Today, it's a …

Schloss Schadau - The Swiss Banker's Summer House That Became Everyone's Castle

There's a sandstone spiral staircase inside Schloss Schadau that is considered one of the finest in Europe. The walls are dressed in 170-year-old Parisian leather. The ceiling in the Bubenberg Salon is not actually wood - it just looks that way, painted with such virtuosity that the illusion holds even …

Peckforton Castle - A Victorian Landowner's Medieval Fantasy Made Real

This isn't one of those hotels that calls itself a castle because it has turrets painted on the wallpaper. Peckforton Castle is the real deal – or at least as real as a Victorian landowner's fantasy of medieval life could get. Built between 1844 and 1850, it comes complete with …

Widiane Resort & Spa - Where the Atlas Meets the Lake

There's a lake in Morocco that most travelers never find. Bin El Ouidane sits in the Middle Atlas foothills, roughly three and a half hours from both Marrakech and Casablanca, its water an improbable shade of blue against a backdrop of olive groves, argan trees, and cactus-covered hillsides. Perched on …

Auberge Aux 4 Vents - The Swiss Hotel Where You Can Take a Bath Outdoors - From the Second Floor

Between Fribourg's medieval rooftops and a park full of century-old beeches, a renovated 17th-century manor is doing something quietly remarkable. Auberge aux 4 Vents is not a boutique hotel in the algorithmic sense - all reclaimed wood and oat milk. It is something older and stranger: a patrician country manor …

Domaine des Etangs, Auberge Collection - Deep in the Charente, a Medieval Castle Reinvents Itself

Somewhere in the Charente countryside of southwest France, on a 1,000-hectare (2,500-acre) estate of forests, lakes, and open pastureland, there is a tennis court floating on a pond. There is also a 13th-century castle tower where you can sleep beneath a glass ceiling and look up at the stone ribs …

Hana-Maui Resort, a Destination by Hyatt Residence - The Far Side of Maui

Most resorts want you to stay on property. Hana-Maui Resort wants you to stay in a different way entirely - unhurried, untethered, and largely offline.
