Hapuku Lodge – A Maori Fishing Village

Dec. 28, 2012 by UNIQ Hotels

Location:

Kaikoura New Zealand Oceania
Eco-FriendlyNatureTreehouse

Set in the small fishing town of ‘Kaikoura’ (which means ‘to eat crayfish’ in Maori) the Hapuku Lodge is the place to stay if you love eco tourism, beautiful scenery, and sea air. The area has been home to the Maori for over 1000 years and is an excellent example of their unique culture. It is also home to a stunning variety of marine wildlife including dolphins, whales, and seals.

You could stay in the treehouses which are built to complement the natural environment using local wood. There your stay in a treehouse is all sweeping views and handmade furnishings. The ‘Olive Suite’ is a fully furnished lodge with 360-degree views and the restaurant sources 75% of its ingredients from local sources or the chef’s own organic garden.

Heating and waste management are all based on sound conservationist principles. The Lodge also runs a Maori Culture and Bush Restoration Tour and a Night Sky Tour as the area is remote enough to see the stars very brightly shining.

There are no light switches at Feynan Ecolodge. No minibar, no television, no electricity sockets in the rooms. Gobi Caravanserai - The Desert Lodge at the End of the World

Dundgovi Province in southern Mongolia is not on most people's radar, which is precisely the point. The Gobi Desert here is vast, dry, and almost completely silent - a semi-arid steppe that nomads have traditionally called the "Steppe to Get Lost." Gobi Caravanserai sits in the middle of it, next …

Hotel Qvevrebi - Sleeping Inside A Wine Jug In Georgia's Ancient Vine Country

There are plenty of hotels that claim to put you in touch with a place's culture. Hotel Qvevrebi in eastern Georgia takes the idea more literally than most: it has built 20 cottages shaped like the qvevri, the ancient egg-shaped clay vessels that Georgians have used to ferment and store …

Conversas de Alpendre, Algarve - A Rural Hideaway With Soul

Sanctuary Treehouse Resort - Tennessee's Most Playful Luxury Resort

Sanctuary Treehouse Resort in Sevierville, Tennessee, is the world's first and largest interactive treehouse resort, which is one way to put it. The Mohicans - Ohio's Most Extraordinary Treehouse Resort

At The Mohicans Treehouse Resort in rural Ohio, a vintage Airstream hangs 7.5 meters (25 feet) in the air, Pete Nelson-designed cabins perch among century-old pines, and the entire place was built largely by Amish craftsmen using reclaimed barn wood.
